Safe gun handling, sound basic technique and proper gun fit are all fundamental to enjoying your shooting and reaching your potential at clay shooting. Those new to the sport should consider a few lessons as essential before purchasing their first shotgun or attempting to shoot unsupervised.
For those just starting out or under our instruction that do not yet have their own equipment, we are happy to supply everything required, including all safety equipment. We have a selection of guns available including smaller gauges suitable for ladies and juniors.
The wide variety of targets that we have available across our different ranges ensure that we can present targets suitable to your ability level from the beginner level to the most challenging that you are likely to encounter either in the field or on the competitive clay circuit.
At Cockett Farm, we firmly believe that there is no substitute for experience and that you need to have shot to a high level to be able to recognize, diagnose and rectify any issues correctly. Our two main instructors boast many years of competitive shooting experience. Both have represented England and have been stalwarts in the Nottinghamshire county teams for many years.
All tuition needs to be pre booked with the ground directly. If you have not shot before, we recommend that you start out with a "have a go" session initially as this is the most cost effective introduction to clay shooting. Following the "have a go" if you have got the bug and wish to progress further, individual coaching sessions are the way forward. Individual sessions are priced at £45 per hour or if you wish to learn as a couple or with a friend, we can accommodate a maximum of 2 people per lesson at a cost of £65 per hour. Tuition prices exclude clays and cartridges which will be charged in addition.
You are welcome to use your own ammunition in accordance with the ground's policies.
Peter is the manager of the shooting ground and as such is available for instruction most days.

A former Nottinghamshire Supreme Champion and former county champion in Universal Trench, Olympic Skeet & All Round. A former electrical contractor / projects manager, Lee switched careers to become a shooting coach in 2014. Lee is a regular and well respected competitor on the DTL circuit and current England team member. You would struggle to find someone more passionate about their coaching and this was recognised by the CPSA by awarding Lee the coveted Coach of the Year award in 2020. Lee is also a keen game shot and happy to advise on game shooting etiquette and field safety.
When not out competing or coaching, Lee also enjoys a relaxing day fishing or can be found in the kitchen practicing his own version of the "Masterchef Invention Test" often resulting in the most unusual combinations imaginable.
