The targets you'll be shooting are generally known as clays although it's many years since they were made of clay. Modern targets are made from pitch and limestone and are made to standard dimensions of size and weight. As the sport of clay shooting has developed over the years, so have the clays used with several different shapes and sizes now available. Here at Cockett Farm, as we offer such a variety of disciplines, we also utilize most of the clay types. Shown below is a brief description of each clay type used on the ground.
These are the clays that you will see most. A domed shape with a thick rim to give strength, they are the only clays used for all disciplines except for Sporting and all of its variants. They come in many colours but most commonly in black. DTL & ABT are generally orange.
The same shape as the Standard and Midi but as they ae smaller and lighter they fly differently and are much more affected by the wind. Depending on the presentation, they can look a lot further away than they are and consequently are often given too much lead!
